State officials: $11M in funding allocated for flood mitigation projects in Mamaroneck

State officials announced Friday that $11 million in state funding is headed to deal with ongoing flooding problems in the Village of Mamaroneck.
State Sen. Shelley Mayer and Assemblyman Steve Otis joined officials in making the announcement.
The money will go toward the U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers flood mitigation plan for the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake rivers.
Lawmakers said the funding was a critical move to prevent the impacts of superstorms on the community, like the remnants of Hurricane Ida.
"People lost their homes, people lost their businesses," Mayer said. "this was the worst of what we're seeing in our super storms. Mamaroneck was the epicenter and we are committed to try and find ways to address it."
The lawmakers said they will work closely with the state Department of Environmental Conservation to identify other flooding issues.
