A man involved in a crash in the eastbound lanes of State Route 17 on Saturday morning was fatally struck after he exited his vehicle.

State police say Garfield Elliot, 47, of New Rochelle, was in the center median when he stepped out of his car and into the roadway. He was struck by a Volkswagen and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not release any information about the driver.
