State prisons will start releasing some inmates early due to a shortage of corrections officers, officials said Wednesday.
This follows the firing of over 2,000 guards who went on strike over poor working conditions.
Corrections officials are identifying inmates convicted of minor crimes. These individuals must be within 100 days of their release date to qualify.
Those convicted of sex crimes, violent felonies or serious felonies are not eligible.
