A Stony Point man who traveled to Mexico for spring break says he was unable to fly back after his passport was destroyed.

Joey Makara went to Mexico with five friends, one of whom, Joe Heckl, of Garnerville, he says destroyed his passport. Makara's mother, Lisa DiNuzzo, says the incident appears to have happened during an alcohol-induced good time the group was having.

Heckl denies that he destroyed Makara's passport.

DiNuzzo says her son was forced to take a four-hour bus trip to get a new passport at the nearest U.S. Consulate after the Department of Homeland Security denied him entry into the country.

DiNuzzo says her son now has his passport and should be flying in at some point on Tuesday.
