Changes are coming soon to a portion of Central Highway in Stony Point.
The town and county are cutting down Central Highway at the intersection of Washburns Lane from two lanes down to one.
The double lanes were created 15 years ago to alleviate traffic in the intersection, but ever since it's been a catalyst for crashes - with 75 reported accidents in the last decade.
"That'll allow traffic to be limited to one vehicle to cross through the intersection, cause traffic to slow down, and it'll be safer for pedestrians who use this walkway to walk along," says Stony Point Town Supervisor Jim Monaghan.
On top of cutting traffic down to one lane, the sidewalks will also be extended to prevent drivers from going around cars turning in the intersection.
The work is expected to be completed in two months.
