Stop & Shop will reduce hours and add special shopping times for customers who are 60 or older in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The supermarket chain announced that it adjusted its hours of operation from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at most of its stores, effective Monday.
Stop & Shop said it will open stores from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. for customers over the age of 60, beginning Thursday.
The supermarket said it made “the decision to allow community members in this age category to shop in a less crowded environment, which better enables social distancing.”
Stop & Shop said that workers will not ask for identification from customers but is asking that shoppers who are not seniors respect this new policy.
Stop & Shop added that it is continuing to ensure sanitary conditions at its stores and is taking extra cleaning measures, following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure the safety of its customers and workers.
