A major warm up is on the way next week, bringing temperatures as warm as 70-degrees for parts of the island. However, with water temperatures only in the 30s, parts of the south shore and the east end will remain in the 50s. Here's everything you need to know.
Today: Cloudy with fog and drizzle
Dense fog is expected all morning with drizzle and temperatures steady in the 30s this morning reaching the mid 40s this afternoon.
Rain is likely overnight tonight with temperatures steady near 40.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS: Don't forget, the clocks will "spring forward" 1-hour tonight after 1:59AM for Daylight Saving Time.
Sunday: Morning Fog, then mild west & for north shore later in the day
The weather can vary greatly across Long Island. Clouds, drizzle and fog will be slow to clear for the south shore and out east. However, it will become warmer with some hints of sunshine developing in the afternoon for especially Nassau County and western Suffolk County away from the immediate South Shore.
There can be a 20 degree or more difference in high temperatures from the East End to parts of Nassau and western Suffolk. Highs near 50 expected for the south shore, upper 40s out east. The warmest parts of the island will approach 60 degrees.
Allergy Season Starting
Another sign of the warmer months we are heading into is that tree pollen is starting to become active. It is still very low, but something to start taking note of. Tree pollen always begins allergy season spring, followed by grass pollen from mid-spring through summer and ragweed becomes more problematic later in our summer months.
The work week: Warm west, mild for the rest of the island
Monday and Tuesday look great with a mix of sun and clouds along with high temperatures in the mid 50s for the south shore and out east and near 60 for the rest of the island.
Rain returns on Wednesday and Thursday with high temperatures near 50. Drier weather returns into next weekend with overall cooler high temperatures.
