The mostly cloudy and breezy weather with a passing shower that we had today, is what we will have for Wednesday, too. There may be a few breaks of sun, but otherwise cool and mainly cloudy with an isolated shower or two.
Thursday morning will be windy and cloudy with a shower chance, but the time that you really need to pay attention to the weather and slow down travel is after 2 p.m. and until just before midnight. One to two inches of rain plus wind gusts between 30 and 50 mph will impact both Nassau and Suffolk Counties during this time.
High tide minor to moderate coastal flooding is also likely on Thursday.
While it mostly dries out for Halloween on Friday, it will still be a very windy day with scattered power outages still possible. You will need to watch out for blowing debris and falling branches during trick-or-treating time.

TROPICS: Hurricane Melissa made landfall earlier today as a destructive category five hurricane around 1 p.m. eastern time near New Hope, Jamaica with maximum sustained wind around 185 mph and a minimum central pressure of 892 millibars. It is tied with the 1935 "Labor Day" hurricane for the strongest recorded landfall of a hurricane in the Atlantic Basin. Parts of Jamaica will be forever changed from this storm. (NOTE: Thursday's storm for Long Island is SEPARATE from Melissa, but some tropical moisture can be pulled north and cause our local storm to have some tropical-like downpours)
