Storm Watch: Two rounds of mostly wet weather could slow Thanksgiving travel

One round of moderate rain will impact Tuesday morning's commute and another chilly rain with some mixing along and north of I-84 will impact Thanksgiving Thursday plans.

This is one of the most important weather weeks of the year and there are a few things you should pay attention to. If you are traveling anywhere across the country, please check with your airline throughout the week as weather across the country will have a high impact on travel. Locally, we are looking at two weather systems - one on Tuesday and another on Thanksgiving.
The first will be a round of moderate, short-lived rain for the Tuesday morning commute. While you should slow down with the wet conditions and wet leaves around, no other impacts are expected with sun breaking out late in the morning tomorrow.
The second is more of a "storm" for the Thanksgiving holiday. This is a different type of storm than last week's. It is a bit faster moving or more what we call "progressive" and less of that slower-moving full-on coastal storm like we had last week. That said, the exact track and strength of this storm becomes clearer once we get past tomorrow's rain.
The entire News 12 Storm Watch Team of meteorologists is watching this closely and should there be any forecast adjustments - you will be first to know on-air, here on News12.com, on the News 12 APP and on social media. The most likely scenario though for Thursday is a chilly rain for most areas, but along and north of I-84 there is some mixing or coating to an inch or so of snow on colder surfaces possible. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 30s to low 40s on the Thanksgiving holiday.
Beyond Thanksgiving, Friday while initially looking wet, is looking a bit drier as of this morning. Partly sunny, breezy and chilly with highs around 44 degrees.
The weekend is looking dry but turning much colder. Are you ready for highs to be in the 30s? Well, that is exactly what we are looking at for most of next week!
Have a great start to this busy week!
NYC PARADE BALLOON OUTLOOK: As of this morning they would fly, but if the storm becomes stronger or tracks a bit closer, the wind forecast will go up. Wind threshold: If the wind is stronger than 23 mph sustained or 34 mph gusts, they will not fly.
FORECAST:
TODAY: This will be one of the nicest days this week. Sun gradually gives way to clouds. It is not as windy as over the weekend. Highs around 50 degrees.
TONIGHT: Cloudy with spotty showers developing towards and after midnight. Lows around 42 degrees.
TUESDAY: STORM WATCH (AM) - A round of moderate to briefly heavy rain will impact the morning commute from around 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. While flooding is not expected and rain amounts will be around 0.3", roads will be wet and slick with wet leaves around. Breaks of sunshine develop into the afternoon with highs well into the 50s. Lows around 35 degrees.
WEDNESDAY (GETAWAY DAY): Decent, but chilly and breezy. Sun and clouds with highs around 48 degrees. Lows near 35 degrees. THURSDAY (THANKSGIVING): STORM WATCH - Plan on a wet, annoying type of weather day. Cloudy with a chilly rain for most. There is the chance for a wintry mix and some wet snow along and north of I-84. This is highly track and storm strength dependent and those are two things that can shift around a bit before Thursday. Temperatures are likely to be above freezing. I would just plan on a wet, nasty day on Thanksgiving with around one-half inch of rain. Lows around 36 degrees.
FRIDAY: For the busy holiday shopping day, we will watch the chance for any lingering wet weather from Thanksgiving, but it is looking drier as of now. Highs around 44 degrees under a partly sunny sky. Breezy. Lows around 30 degrees. SATURDAY: Sun and clouds. Breezy and chilly. Highs around 43 degrees. Lows around 25 degrees.
SUNDAY: Becoming even colder! Sun and clouds with highs around 38 degrees. Lows near 24 degrees.
