Here we go, Hudson Valley - It is the busiest travel time of the year, and while we all say to "pack your patience" before going to hit the roads/rails/airways, you may have to pack an umbrella as well.

A few systems will be moving through this week, bringing rounds of mainly rain showers. But some areas in the higher elevations (over 1,000 feet) in Orange and Ulster counties could see a wintry mix and even some light snow mixed in.

One system arrives overnight into Tuesday morning. It will first bring clouds tonight into Tuesday. Rain arrives after 4 a.m. or 5 a.m., moving in from the west and heading east. Batches of rain will come down during the height of the morning rush (5 a.m. to 7 a.m.) and then the rain will taper off around 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. After this system leaves the area, winds will pick up from the northwest, drawing down colder and drier air.

Tuesday afternoon will feel colder than air temperatures as the chilly air rushes in. The winds will linger but will trend a little less in intensity for Wednesday as temperatures get near normal levels.

The second round of weather arrives late Wednesday into Thanksgiving Day. Rain arrives overnight and will last through much of the day. With clouds, showers, and a breezy wind out of the northeast, temperatures will feel chilly.

If you're going out for any Turkey Trot races, trying to head to the big Thanksgiving Day Parade, traveling to your family gathering or trying to fry a turkey outside, you will need some kind of rain gear to keep yourself dry. The rain will add up to about an inch over the day, so flooding is not a concern. But it will still make the holiday a dreary one.

In the higher elevations of areas towards the north and west, such as in Orange and Ulster counties, above 1,000 feet, a wintry mix or outright snow will come down where temperatures will be running colder. The exact path of the system will determine how much precipitation the area will see. Areas north and west of Interstate 84 and Interstate 87 will see the chance of that wintry build-up. In the highest elevations of the Catskills, there could be several inches.

Friday has a chance for seeing wet weather as well, but that chance is running low. Nonetheless, it is still a busy travel day and family gathering day, so keep an eye out for more forecast details as the week goes on.

The weekend will be drier, but there will be a colder feeling in the air as time goes on. Hope you pack a thicker coat in your travel bag. You'll need it when you return from your destinations.
