Mayor’s brother sentenced for gun trafficking

The half-brother of  Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas has been sentenced for federal gun trafficking charges.
Prosecutors say Henry George Thomas, 46, will spend four years on probation after a judge sentenced him to time already served. The former Mount Vernon firefighter admitted to illegally selling the guns earlier this year.
According to the criminal complaint, prosecutors captured the then-45-year-old on surveillance video and audio tapes meeting with a confidential source to sell guns for cash on the streets of the city in 2015. Thomas admits the practice went on for five years. It took place at the Mount Vernon Fire Department headquarters, which is just feet from an elementary school and church.
At the time of his brother’s arrest, Mayor Thomas said he was not aware of his brother's alleged criminal activity.
