A group of New York jazz musicians who are at home and social distancing because of the coronavirus pandemic are by bringing people together with music.
The 18 professional musicians across New York City produced the ensemble.
Saxophonist Chad LB is the mind behind the virtual jam session.
"Music has always been a way to help people take their mind off the daily grind,” LB explains. “It's nice for us to be able to still hopefully provide that experience for people even though we're all in quarantine."
The professional saxophonist has performed with big names, including Taylor Swift. Right now, he would be touring, but the coronavirus cut the cord on the music industry.
"Yeah, I probably had like 25 shows get canceled," LB says.
With live performances on a break, LB was not about to let the outbreak silence jazz music.
"It gave me the idea like, ‘hey, it would be fun to work with all these people I haven’t worked with in a long time and have everyone record these separate videos in their places and put it all together,’" LB says.
And that's exactly what they did.
"Everyone just took selfie videos with their phone essentially, and we got my engineer to essentially mix everything together so all the levels would make sense and it would be a cohesive piece of music and work together, so I was very involved,"
The song chosen by the musicians was “Easy to Love,” an upbeat 1936 hit by Cole Porter.
“And it’s just a very, bright chipper song for what in general has felt like a dark time," LB says.
