Some West Haverstraw Elementary School students and teachers bit into muffins at a school party and found pills.

School officials say a student brought in the fishy treats for an end-of-the-year gathering of second- and third-graders. Teachers made students spit out the muffins and police were called.A pharmacist determined that the pills were fish oil vitamins, which are only dangerous to people with fish allergies.Investigators say the muffins were purchased at a supermarket and that the student's older brother stuffed the pills inside as a joke. No one's laughing."It's a pretty scary thought," says West Haverstraw resident Josh Melendez. "You don't know if it's a fish pill or not. The parents have to be aware of what their kids are doing."

None of the children got sick. The superintendent says a disciplinary hearing will occur before the beginning of the next school year to determine how the student who put the pills inside will be punished. Police do not plan to file criminal charges.
