Suffern political candidates plan to eliminate overcrowding in houses, apartments

Political candidates in Suffern want the village to get tough on overcrowded houses and apartments.
Democratic mayoral challenger John Keegan and village trustee candidates Patricia Abato and Dagan Lacorte believe multiple families living in single-family homes in Suffern are causing a safety hazard. They are calling for a special prosecutor to bring habitual violators to court where a judge can shut the buildings down. They also want to hire additional code enforcers, and double court time dedicated to code violations.
Current Mayor James Giannettino says the village already is cracking down. Violations handed out have more than tripled in the last two years and fines have exceeded more than $100,000.
