Cheerleaders in Suffolk are taking to social media to help their former coach find a kidney donor.
Madison Sanalitro, 25, from Middle Island, says she's in kidney failure and is currently on dialysis. Sanalitro says this is the second time she's been in kidney failure.
Sanalitro says she was only 18 the first time her kidneys failed. Luckily, someone saw a Facebook post about her and donated a kidney.
Sanalitro has been on dialysis for the past year. She hasn't been able to coach cheerleading, but the girls she coached in the past are taking to social media to help spread the word. Sanalitro coached cheerleading for the Longwood Youth Sports Association.
"I just don't feel good sometimes after dialysis," says Sanalitro. "It's a struggle in the morning getting up for work. I can't coach cheerleading anymore."
One of the girls who Sanalitro coached says she looks up to her.
"I didn't even look at her as a coach. I looked up to her like a sister," says cheerleader Brianna Pecoraro. "It was really hard for me to see she was going through something like that, and it really upset me. I just hope after everything she's been through that she can get a kidney and be healthy because she doesn't deserve any of this."
Sanalitro says she is on the transplant list but doesn't know how long it will take to find a donor.
