A Sullivan County woman has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of criminally negligent homicide following the tragic death of a 2-year-old boy left in a hot car in July 2024.

Prosecutors allege that Sarah Carter left the child unattended in her car for several hours on a day when temperatures soared above 90 degrees. The vehicle was turned off with all windows rolled up, leading to the fatal incident in Monticello.

News 12 has learned that the 2-year-old and his brother were under the supervision of Carter's mother at the time.

Carter is currently being held at the Sullivan County Jail.
