The Gorton High School basketball team faced off against Sacred Heart at the Coach Volpe Challenge over the weekend, raising money for Haiti earthquake survivors.
Gorton head coach Rob Rizzo and Sacred Heart coach Mike McDonnell, along with fans, checked their shoes at the door and paid $1 each to retrieve them at the end, with proceeds going toward the Haiti relief effort.
The challenge ended Sunday with the Sacred Heart Irish defeating the Gorton Wolves 48-39.
The annual game is named after the longtime basketball coach John Volpe, who headed both the Gorton and the Sacred Heart teams in the course of his career.
