Police have arrested a 17-year-old for allegedly intentionally driving his car into another person and leaving the scene on Wednesday night.
Surveillance video obtained exclusively by News 12 shows the driver traveling the wrong way on North Avenue, striking someone along the sidewalk by Clinton Place, and speeding off.
Minutes later, New Rochelle Police Accident investigators and Criminal Investigation Division detectives arrived on the scene and transported the 43-year-old New Rochelle resident to a local trauma center with serious injuries.
Police say he's now in critical but stable condition.
Officials believe the suspect and victim knew each other but did not say what led up to the incident around 10:15 p.m.
The incident was loud enough to alert neighbors.
"I was trying to watch some TV. All of a sudden, I heard a man screaming, yelling, and then I saw... he ran this way but then that's all I saw," said New Rochelle resident Janice Confalone.
Police eventually tracked down the teen driver and charged him with first-degree assault.
His name is not being released due to his age.
Police are not releasing the victim's name at this time
