News 12 is going shopping for Halloween! There are a lot of costs that go into the holiday, and we are breaking down the cost of decorations.
Caleb Silver, editor in chief at Investopedia, says U.S. households are expected to spend around $3.8 billion decorating their homes for Halloween this season. Silver says, "..that is a little up from last year we are talking about $35 or so per household, but you can make it a lot more expensive depending on what you are trying to do to make your house look so scary."
News 12's Kristie Reeter decided to go shopping to see if she could bring the cost down.
She was able to get $45.39 worth of decorations for just $5.39 out of pocket.
She went to Home Depot because with her credit card she was able to cash in points for a $40 gift card.
She decided on two mums, costing $14.42 with tax. She also got skeleton lights that were $30.97 with tax. The total came in at $45.39. After using the gift card it was only $5.39 out of pocket.
