The Cost Of: Do you have unclaimed money in New York?

So far this year the New York State Comptroller's Office has returned over $200 million.

Millions of dollars right now are sitting unclaimed in New York and some of it could actually be yours.

Old bank accounts, unused gift cards, utility deposits, if you have one of those, you may have money coming your way. The New York State Comptroller's Office says those are some of the common things that make up the unclaimed funds.

Right now, unclaimed funds sit at over $20 billion. Checks have been going out to some people owed money. So far this year the comptroller's office has returned over $200 million.

But just because you haven't gotten a check, doesn't mean you aren't owed money. You can check if you're owned money here through the NY Comptroller's office.
