A Yorktown Heights man will auction off his LeBron James rookie card - and stands to make a huge profit.
Matthew Berger liked James so much that when he joined the NBA, he convinced his father to help him buy his rookie basketball card for $5,000.
“I saw it as an investment potential when I was around 20 years old, and a lot of my friends thought I was crazy. It's the holy grail of modern sports cards in my opinion,” he says.
Berger's investment is about to pay off. He put the rookie card up for auction this week. Bidding is already up to $700,000.
“It's gotten to the point that it's such a valuable commodity that I can do other things and make a lot of things happen in my life," Berger says.
He says the final bid could be over $2 million.
