News 12's Elizabeth Hashagen was joined by Alan Krystal and Christine Montanti to talk about guardianship reforms and oversight.

Right now, there are cases of guardianship and conservatorship abuse across the country and the tri-state area.

There have been instances of abuse, mismanagement of funds and a lack of court oversight.

A 2018 estimate put the number of adult guardianships in the U.S. at 1.3 million. And now there's a renewed push to change state laws and reform the system.

Krystal is an attorney and an arbitrator, with three decades of legal experience. Montanti is a guardianship reform advocate. She is also the daughter of a woman who was declared incapacitated without due process.
