You'll soon see 30 new firefighters serving the city of Yonkers.
This year’s graduation ceremony looked a little different this year with social distancing, masks, and no families present.
The “probies” completed 18 weeks of rigorous training to cap off a year of hard work. "Once we got the call, started the background checks, our interviews—that's when the world changed really," says graduate Rolando Fernandez
These 30 graduates now go into a probationary role at a station in Yonkers. "One of my earliest memories, I was in Public School 30, and a group of Yonkers firefighters came to the cafeteria, and they told us what they did. It was an amazing experience. From a very young age, I saw that, and I was like, 'This is what I want to do,’" says graduate Nicholas Baron.
