Three Village School District starts its 'Strategic Plan' in September

The Three Village School District is moving forward with a plan to reconfigure some schools.
Right now, students in grades seven through nine attend junior high school. Tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders will attend Ward Melville High School.
The new plan would bring ninth graders into the high school, and sixth graders would attend junior high.
The plan has been discussed for years and has received pushback from some parents and faculty.
A former guidance counselor says it's wrong for the district. "There's no clear explanation for why the reconfiguration plan is necessary or how it will be truly beneficial to all of our students, which is leaving me and many parents and educators confused and misinformed," says Anthony Dattero.
A district spokesperson says the change will go into effect at the start of the next school year.
Three Village Schools District Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Scanlon, tells News 12, the change will save taxpayer dollars and create more educational opportunities. He also says this move has been a long time coming.
“We are the last school district on Long Island to still be in this configuration 75% of the state, and the country is in 9-12 and 6,7,8 middle school model,” says Dr. Scanlon. “The advantage for us moving to that is where on par with a lot of the other school districts in the country.”
