Business owners along Morris Park Avenue complain frequent ticketing is putting the squeeze on their customers.
Storeowners say the Department of Transportation (DOT) started an aggressive ticket blitz on the roadway between Bronxdale Avenue and Williamsbridge Road about two years ago. They claim cops issue up to 120 tickets daily to customers who come in for small-ticket items, but end up paying big bucks in fines. Business owners fear customers will stop choosing their small stores and opt for local malls with better parking.
Community Board 11 has requested the DOT study the cost of reconfiguring the roadway for angled parking, which some say will double available spaces. However, the DOT has said in the past the area is too congested for angled parking.
