The Town of Clarkstown is pulling ahead in Rockland County for its green energy initiatives.
The town has been designated a Clean Energy Community by the New York State Energy Research & Development Agency.
It's the first town in Rockland and among a handful in the region to achieve the designation.
Energy projects that contributed to the distinction include the town solar field, electric vehicle charging stations and LED streetlights.
"It's good to know we paid that entire project off, and it's saved us almost $1 million since we did that," says Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann,
The designation allows the town to pursue even more grants for future green initiatives. Some of those future initiatives include expanding charging stations and solar power, converting Town Hall lighting fixtures to LED and replacing town vehicles with electric cars.
