Yorktown Town Supervisor Tom Diana declared a state of emergency after several parts of the town were significantly damaged during Sunday's storm.

Diana says the town received more than 6-8 inches of rain in just a few hours.

"It was loud and scary, and I heard things falling. Parts of the porch fell apart in my house, but we were okay," said Shrub Oaks resident Dana Doyle.

Damage from the storm includes a sinkhole behind Town Hall, compromised culverts, boulders on roads and severe flooding.

All Yorktown Parks and Recreation programs are canceled for Monday, and municipal pools are closed. The town’s camps and one pool are expected to resume on Tuesday.

"I wanted to make sure that we were covered here in the town of Yorktown for the devastation that we have here," Diana acknowledged on Monday.

Diana believes his emergency order will last at least one more day, but that all depends on what officials find once the water is gone.
