A tractor-trailer carrying a large pipe hit an overpass on Thursday morning, resulting in lane closures on the Thruway in South Nyack.
Police say a southbound truck hit the South Broadway overpass near milepost 16.4, between Exit 10 and the Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge.
Lanes were closed as crews inspect and fix issues. All of the lanes that were closed have reopened.
Authorities say traffic was backed up 11 miles at one point.
Local roads were impacted as a result of people looking for alternate routes.
State police say the vehicle was over the height limit and was hauling the pipe without a permit.
No one was hurt. A Thruway spokesperson says it was a "significant bridge hit" because two of the bridge's eight support girder beams were badly damaged. They are in the process of making temporary repairs while figuring out permanent ones. There will be a full inspection of the bridge.
