Transit police are cracking down on Bronx straphangers near Yankee Stadium.
The Daily News reports transit police officers hide out in secret rooms at subway stations near the stadium to catch those trying to skip out on fares. According to the report, this started after an NYPD captain criticized some officers for not writing enough tickets. The captain reportedly told officers they would not get overtime money if they did not hand out more summonses.
Some cops claim their commanding officer has imposed an illegal ticket-writing quota. The PBA reportedly says quotas are bad because they can interfere with the NYPD?s ability to fight serious crime.
