State troopers stopped a car for speeding on the New York State Thruway in Clarkstown Friday and ended up seizing 102 pounds of marijuana and arresting two men.
According to police, when they pulled over an SUV, the smell of marijuana was overwhelming. Troopers found bundles of wrapped-up marijuana in the back of the car and several duffel bags filled with bricks of marijuana. Police estimate the pot has a street value of about $300,000.
David Sawyer, 33, and James Jones, 58, both of Buffalo, are charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Sawyer was also charged with speeding. The pair is being held in the county jail on $50,000 bond. Police say they were traveling home to Buffalo from the Bronx.
