The TSA says it collected more than $926,000 in unclaimed money at airport security checkpoints last year.
The agency says it collected loose change and paper currency left behind in a bin during the security screening process.
The year before the TSA says it gathered $960,000. The TSA recommends that travelers put money into their carry-on bags so that they don't accidentally leave anything behind in a bin.
The top five airports where passengers left behind the most money were John F. Kennedy International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Miami International Airport, McCarran International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
The TSA says if someone returns to the checkpoint within a short timeframe to claim an item, it is easily returned to them.
