The City Council introduced two pieces of legislation Wednesday aimed at forcing the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) to reshape its policies.

The first bill would require the ACS to send monthly reports to the City Council, detailing the agency's current child abuse investigations. It's a move that would give the City Council an inside look at how child welfare workers are doing their jobs. A second bill calls for lessening the caseloads of each worker in order to give them more time to focus on each case.

The call for changes at the ACS comes in the wake of several child abuse deaths, including the case of 7-year-old Nixzmary Brown. Brown's mother and boyfriend are charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death. And most recently, a 4-year-old Bronx boy's mother and boyfriend are being charged in his death.
