Parishioners from two Bronx churches are thanking God that despite a merger, they are not on the New York Archdiocese?s closing list.Sacred Heart Church and Saint Francis of Assisi Church will merge as part of a realignment plan. Both parishes will continue to operate out of their current buildings and hold their own Masses. Parishioners say the two churches have had a strong relationship for years and the announcement only makes the union official. After shutting down four churches in the New York City area, the archdiocese says the realignment process is over. It is now planning for new churches and constructing new buildings for existing parishes.
