A student pilot and his teacher were rescued Monday after a single-engine plane crashed in the Hudson River off the Yonkers Pier.The plane, which was coming from an airport in New Jersey, went down shortly before noon near a sugar factory in Yonkers. The engine shut down and the two men were forced to ditch the plane. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter happened to be surveying the area and was able to rescue one of the men. The NYC Aviation Unit sent in divers and rescued the other man. The two people that were rescued and two divers are being treated for hypothermia at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. The Federal Aviation Administration is continuing to investigate the crash.
