An electrical fire at a Selwyn Avenue building has left one family to rebuild their lives for the second time this year.
Carlos DeJesus and his mother Tomasina have lost their second home in a span of four months. A four-alarm fire destroyed their previous apartment on Grand Concourse in February.
Tomasina DeJesus believes the fire department is to blame for the destruction of the Selwyn Avenue home. She says officials were called to her house at 2:30 a.m. to determine where the smell of smoke was coming from. The firefighters left unable to discover the source of the smell, according to DeJesus.
Fire officials say they received a second call at 7:00 a.m. when the flames grew out of control.
The fire began inside the walls of the apartment, according to investigators.
