For the second time, Ulster County has rejected a legal filing from Texas in the case of a Hudson Valley doctor accused of prescribing abortion pills.
Texas Attorney General's Office officials are seeking to enforce a summary judgment against New Paltz doctor Margaret Carpenter for prescribing abortion pills to a Texas woman through telehealth.
Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck denied the filing, citing New York's Shield Law, which protects doctors who provide reproductive care from out-of-state prosecution.
"In New York, a rejection means the matter is closed," Bruck wrote in a letter.
