Ulster County is reporting one of its residents has tested positive for the Delta variant of COVID-19.
Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan says the person who tested positive was vaccinated and the person has since recovered.
Health experts say the infection should be a wakeup call for everyone.
The Delta variant has been wreaking havoc across the globe among unvaccinated people because it's 60 to 70% more contagious than the original.
Infectious disease specialist Dr. Harish Moorjani is unequivocal about why people should get vaccinated right now.
"The risk is way too high. People are gambling with the quantity and quality of their lives, not taking the vaccination. That is how simple and straight forward this data is today. There is no question about it," he says.
Dr. Moorjani says he is worried about unvaccinated people and is convinced the inflammation this disease causes will create real problems five and 10 years down the road.
He says people can save themselves a lot of misery by getting vaccinated now.
