A devastating fire at 530 McLean Ave. in Yonkers has left 25-30 people homeless, forcing them to brave the freezing cold weather without a place to call their own.
The fire, which started in a second-floor apartment Tuesday, was fought by firefighters for about an hour. Although everyone was able to evacuate safely, the building has been left in shambles.
The Red Cross and Yonkers Office of Emergency Management have opened a reception center at the Yonkers Police Athletic Club to provide assistance to those affected.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
