The United States Postal Service is considering the closure of eight Bronx post offices in an effort to close a gap in its budget.The list of possible closures, which may go into effect Oct. 1, includes the Botanical, Bronx Hub, Clason Point, Crotona Park, Hillside, Melcourt, Oak Point and Van Nest offices. The USPS may close or consolidate as many as 1,000 post offices nationwide.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says the loss of post offices would especially hurt the elderly and those who don't have Internet access. He vowed to fight for additional funding to keep local post offices open.
