A northern Westchester community is mourning the loss of one of its police officers who died unexpectedly on Thanksgiving night.

Dozens showed up Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil outside of Peekskill Police Headquarters to honor the life of Officer Gregory Jones.

The 48-year-old spent more than two decades with the department, including time as a local school resource officer and D.A.R.E. instructor.
He was remembered for an infectious smile, a passion for helping others and a dedication to the community.
Jones' visitation will be at the Joseph Nardone Funeral Home Wednesday from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m., and a funeral Mass at the Church of the Assumption Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
