The village of Nyack may soon give skateboarders the boot from Veterans Park at Main and Cedar streets.
Mayor John Shields (D- Nyack) says he?s not against the sport, but feels it doesn?t belong in the park, which the town has restored. Nyack officials say a park in Congers is designated for the activity, but it?s not close. Nyack youth argue skateboarding is safer than joining gangs and being destructive and they plan to fight officials.
The village board will take up the issue of a possible ban at its next meeting on June 22.
