The Mount Vernon Police Association and mayor responded Saturday to the aftermath of four shootings and two stabbings over the course of one day.
Police say someone was stabbed to death on East Third Street around 10 p.m. Friday night.
Prior to that, there were other violent acts near the location that started early in the morning. They include shootings at 1 Bogopa Plaza, 20 E. 4th St. and 100 E. Sandford Ave.
Police have yet to determine whether these incidents are related.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard said that some shops are venues for illegal gambling and drug-dealing, which can lead to arguments and violence.
"We're not just coming for criminals. We're coming for those who harbor criminals and allow them to hang out in their bodegas, barbershops, and their clubs," Patterson-Howard said.
Police sources told News 12 that suspects have been identified in some of the cases.
The Mount Vernon Police Association president told News 12 that these investigations might take longer because they are currently short-staffed.
