Gov. Kathy Hochul appeared at a big rally with President Joe Biden in Yonkers Sunday night with the hopes of getting a boost ahead of Election Day this Tuesday.
Biden's visit at Sarah Lawrence College happened a day after Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin was on the campaign trail with Republican candidates from Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties in Mahopac on Saturday.
During what was his first public visit to Westchester County since taking office -- and though his time at the school was short-lived -- it was likely one of the strongest indicators to date of just how razor-tight the race has become between Hochul and Zeldin.
For the second time this week, Hochul brought the "closer-than-expected race" for New York governor to Westchester County. Only this time, she called in the biggest name in her party, the commander-in-chief, for one final push, to boost voter turnout ahead of what's expected to be a challenging election night for the Democrats.
Biden's visit to the City of Hills in deep blue New York underscores the Democrats growing concern over the Republican's late surge in polling, despite the fact there are twice as many as Democrats than Republicans statewide. Hochul is holding on to just a modest lead over GOP Rep. Zeldin.
Hochul, who is fighting to become New York's first elected female governor, agreed the stakes couldn't be higher. She sharpened her attack against her opponent.
As for the Republicans, one could say they were not as amused with Biden's visit, calling it an act of pure desperation.
The state GOP chairman even likened it to bringing in the captain of HMS Titanic to save the sinking ship.
