Voters elected the first Latino mayor in Port Chester and the first woman and person of color to be mayor in Tuckahoe.
Tuckahoe Mayor-elect Omayra Andino, a self-proclaimed Newyorican, broke a glass ceiling Tuesday night by becoming the first person of color and first woman to be elected as Tuckahoe's mayor.
"It's Women's History Month so that really resonates with me, I feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of women like Susan B. Anthony," she says.
Over in Port Chester, where 63% of the population is Latino, Luis Marino is now the village's first Latino mayor to be elected.
While he's spent decades in public office, Andino is a newcomer - winning her first election in 2018.
Andino will be sworn as Tuckahoe's mayor on April 5.
