Friends and family said their final goodbyes to the Yonkers police sergeant who was killed in the line of duty last week.
A wake for Yonkers police Detective Sgt. Frank Gualdino was held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home.
Gualdino was posthumously promoted to detective sergeant on Tuesday.
The 53-year-old supervisor for the traffic unit was on duty driving an unmarked police car on Tuckahoe Road last Thursday when he was involved in a crash. Police say the car that struck Gualdino’s vehicle was driven by an unlicensed 16-year-old who had just gotten his learner’s permit two weeks earlier. Police say that this teen skidded out of control, crossed the line and struck Gualdino’s car and a Bee-Line bus.
Police say the teen was seriously injured.
Dozens of people lined Park Avenue over the weekend and saluted as a motorcade brought Gualdino to the funeral home.
The 24-year veteran of the force is described as a "cop's cop...a go-to guy."
Yonkers police officials called the loss insurmountable.
"Frank was a great guy, he was a personal friend he was an asset to the job. He was a credit to this job and a credit to the community," says Yonkers Police Commissioner Chris Sapienza.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church at 11 a.m.  The Yonkers Police Department has set up a Help a Hero page and all donations will go straight to the Gualdino family. The family has asked that people donate to the Elizabeth Seton Children's Foundation in lieu of flowers.
Gualdino leaves behind his wife and two children.
Information on road closures and parking restrictions during Gualdino's funeral can be found here.
