A four-year veteran of the Walden Police Department and his family members are facing assault charges connected to an apparent domestic dispute.
Police say Robert Montanaro recently moved out of the home he shared with his wife and children. They say he and his mother dropped by the house in relation to a family court matter Saturday when a fight broke out. Montanaro, his mother and his estranged wife, Jamie, were all charged with third-degree assault.
State police say Jamie Montanaro reported being tackled to the ground. She was taken to St. Luke?s Hospital in Newburgh and released.
Walden Police Chief Jeffry Holmes says Officer Montanaro was put on paid leave and was required to turn in his weapon while the case plays out in court.
All three will be back in court next month.
