Wallkill police officers have received permission from the town to patrol the local Wal-Mart during the "Black Friday" weekend in an effort to prevent a dangerous stampede.
Wallkill Town Supervisor John Ward says under a tentative agreement Wal-Mart will foot the bill to provide enhanced security.
Not everyone, however, supports the town's decision to have police officers provide security for a retailer.
"I would suggest Wal-Mart have [its] own security," says Mildred Sarnecky, of Monroe.
Wallkill officials insist the Wal-Mart patrol will not cut into the number of police working over the holiday weekend, and that only off-duty officers can sign up.
