Public works crews in the Town of Wallkill are working through intense heat to repair a water main leak that caused low pressure in nearby homes.
The leak happened near East Main Street and Carpenter Avenue, where DPW crews have been on scene since before 6 a.m.
Officials say an old valve broke, leading to the leak and widespread low water pressure throughout the morning.
Water service has since been restored, but repairs and cleanup are ongoing in the heat.
"We try to keep as many guys together [as possible], where if somebody does need a break, they can take a few minutes, catch their breath, sit in the air conditioning for a few minutes and regain some energy," says Rob Waligrowski, Town of Wallkill Public Works Administrator.
