A Wappingers Falls mother says she got the shock of her life when she looked outside her window and saw an alligator roaming about in her neighborhood.
Karen McCree says she noticed the alligator, which was about 5 feet and 50 pounds, making its way onto the property of Van Wyck Junior High School next door.
She didn't know where it came from or where it was going, but before calling the police, she jumped into her car and drove next door to get a closer look at the specimen.
Police and the Department of Environmental Conservation arrived and took the alligator away without incident.
Officials say it's been treated at an animal rehabilitation facility.
There is no word yet on where it's going after leaving the facility.
