A Dutchess County
café is “fuurrr real” unlike any
other in our area.
Beans Cat Café is where
cappuccinos meets cats...where muffins meet meows.
“It’s me and my husband. We got married back in October, and then we opened back
on Nov. 14. We wanted to be able
to help shelter cats. We’ve been trying to foster for a while, but we only have an
apartment. Then back in March of 2020, I quit my job. I just decided that the
only way I was going to make this happen is if I cornered myself into it," says co-owner Jessica
Strika.
Beans Cat Café is half coffee shop, half lounge that connects cats from Hudson Valley
animal rescues with their “fur-ever” homes.
Since they have opened, 70 cats have been adopted, and they are hoping to
get to 300 by the end of their first year. "It’s
so exciting. We had this one cat when we first opened. A little black kitten
like the one we have, and when he got adopted, they told me they never
adopted a cat before, so stuff like that. Oh you wouldn't have adopted a cat if
it weren't for something like this," says Strika.
Admission to the cat lounge
is $7 per person for a half hour and $12.50 for an hour. Or you can rent the
entire room for up to six people. That'll cost you $40 for 30 minutes or $70 for an
hour. And there’s a good chance you may
leave with something sweet…that happens to have four legs.
